The problem is having it on top is 14 inches away from the basking spot and moving it that much further up would make the heat from the heat lamp way too much.

The enclosure is the Exo-Terra Large Wide terrarium, with wire mesh roof. Each hole in the mesh is about 1mm wide. The black thing at the top of the photos is my current uvb setup which I am going to replace.

I stick with carpet and clay currently because sand can cause impaction. But tiles sound like an idea that would be worth looking into. I will do some research to consider getting tiles or maybe filling the whole terrarium with clay. Thank you!
