how do i tame my beardie

i have a 3month old beardie, im a first time owner. runs off every time i go to handle him. i have had him out, once hes out he seems to enjoy being held, but i want him to come out on his terms, not mine. dont want to chase him round viv. have tried laying hand flat on base of viv for long time, but still no response, any ideas/tips please!! or do i just have to give him time and be patient. thanx

You nailed it though, really, time and patience are your best bet. I just went through this myself, my beardie didn't seem to want anything to do with me but I kept at it and didn't give up and now jumps or climbs on my hand whenever I put it in her viv. :mrgreen:

handle him more often. i handle mine hes about 4months old and was doin the same thing at the begining. he very rarely scatters now. i take him out once to twice a day. first time for like 20mins or so and the 2nd time for bout 10min. once he recognizes your smell itll be easier. im waiting for mine to get bigger so i can put him on the floor without him takin off after a few mins.

im sure if you continue to be patient and handle him every day he will soon learn that you will not hurt him and be happy to come out.
mine now happily sits on my shoulder and goes to sleep at night
