This afternoon, I gave my beardies their weekly soak in the tub. My gravid belgium red female decided to inhale water, and almost died. Didn't take a single breath for a good five-ten minutes (don't really know exactly how long it was, i was FREAKING out.),She went completely limp, eyes rolled back in her head, right reflex was poor, I was 90% sure at that point she wasn't going to make it.I proceeded to do a modified CPR, which got most of the water out of her lungs. Finally she took an open mouth gasping breath. Rushed her to the vet, after 25 minutes of oxygen, she picked her head up and opened her eyes. She's now home, and doing fine, however she has started digging. I'm afraid that much stress has caused her to go into early labor, and I'm debating on wether or not to go ahead and give her a nest box....Full term gestation is about 7-10 days away. Any thoughts?
went ahead and gave her a nest box. I realize I'm extremely lucky that shes even alive, but I can't help hoping that the eggs will be viable (even though they're a little early. I'm holding my breath! :silent:
Wow, how scary for you and her. That sure was close. When you put her to bed tonight, I would make sure that her head is down lower than the rest of her body so that if she has more fluid to expel, she won't choke. Poor thing, she's had a REAL rough day, she must be exhausted.
