Thank you! ^_^ It's a shame, the camera really dulls their colors.
Now I have a little more time to sit and type, so I can talk more about my babies... It's hard to stop when I get started, lol!
We got Kohana and Smaug shipped to us from Distinctive Dragons, and we got Sylar from a mom and pop pet store as an impulse buy. We wanted our own beardies because we were taking care of my friend's dragon, and they seemed like so much fun. Sadly, my friend's dragon got a bad mouth infection in February while we were taking care of her. They took her to the vet for us and got her antibiotics, and she was starting to get better, but then a HUGE storm hit. It was the one that lasted like a week and had Pittsburgh totally shut down for like two days. During that time we lost power for about a day and a half, but we were completely snowed in and couldn't do anything about it. Sadly, she didn't recover and died the day after the storm, right after our power came back on.
Our other beardies were healthy enough to make it through, albeit very grumpy.
This was Yoshi
Our other dragons are happy and healthy- for the most part, anyway. Kohana and Sylar are still a bit grumpy since the move. They got the short end of the stick and were stuck in one small tank to fit in the front of the moving truck. Smaug was in a box we held on our laps during the trip. I tried to take Kohana out, but she was terrified of the outside. The first time we passed a building, she jumped right from my knee and cuddled herself between my back and the seat faster than I could say anything reassuring. She's a skittish little dragon- scared of everything, but I love her to death. Sylar we didn't want to take out at all. He's an incredibly jumpy and hyper dragon, and we didn't want to risk him getting lost somewhere in the truck or jumping on the driver and startling him. So lucky Smaug got to spend the entire trip in his glory, looking out the window like the pictures above.
Grumpy beardies when we stopped overnight:
We cleaned up Sylar's pellets immediately after... he made such a mess.
Since we've gotten here, this is the first time they've seen animals other than bearded dragons (apart from when Sylar was a tiny baby in the pet shop, and maybe before we got Kohana and Smaug, I don't know). We're moved in with my boyfriend's dad temporarily, and they have two ferrets and a cat. Smaug HATES the ferrets, but he doesn't really mind the cat. The other two are terrified of the cat (but then again... Kohana is scared of everything, poor baby). Sylar
black bearded throughout the entire first two days of being here. Now he's just kind of... sad. He's been moping around. He's been eating, which is definitely good. But he's obviously not happy. I guess it's just relocation stress. I hope he feels better soon.
In general, though, our dragons have really interesting personalities. I never knew reptiles had personalities before getting them, but it's been really cool watching them grow up and develop their personalities and habits.
Sylar has always been really active and jumpy. He rarely stays in the same place for very long and he's always jumping all over the place. It's hard to take him out of his tank and keep an eye on him. He's a fast little thing too. And the weirdest thing... He always likes to take his poops from the highest place he can possibly get to in his tank. He crawls up to the top, and dangles his rear end over the edge. I have NO idea why he feels the need to do this, but it's pretty funny. XD
Baby Sylar:
A more recent picture, right before bed time:
Sylar and Kohana, right after baths. As usual, he wouldn't stay still:
Oddly enough, I've realized that I have very few pictures of Sylar in comparison to the other two.
Smaug loves to show off his beard, though he's actually been a much happier dragon since the move. Maybe it was the road trip. We now refer to being in a grumpy mood as "Smaugin'." He's an awesome hunter, and he really goes out of his way to catch crickets in the most interesting ways- our other two aren't nearly as cool with their hunting. Smaug really goes all out. The picture of him I posted in the first post here is one of my favorites of him- he was trying to ninja his way out of his tank (not that climbing that way would get him far at all, lol), but that's as far as he got before I helped him down. He hasn't tried to do that since, haha. He has the coolest enclosure of the three, though. My boyfriend and I made it from this weird piece of furniture we found at a thrift store. I'll have to get pictures.
Smaug, the first time he grumped at me:
I'm glad we got this picture when he was little, because now that he's bigger it's barely visible. His back says MOO
This is a more recent picture. Smaug was not in the mood for me to wipe off the extra pellet piece dangling from his beard.
Smaug, just lounging:
I'm a little guilty of favoritism... but don't tell the other two. I love Kohana so much. She's really timid, but so sweet. She loves to cuddle up in my hair and into my neck (though with her claws getting sharper, it's starting to hurt a bit O_O). I baby talk her all the time, haha. And she finds the coolest ways to relax. Seriously, I wish I could relax in such awesome ways. She's really clingy, and hates to let go of whatever she's holding on to.
This one was before we got the third tank (Smaug's custom one). They were fine together when they were very little, but I wouldn't put them anywhere near each other now.
A couple nights ago:
She'll be so sad when she can't fit here anymore.
How did she get her head through that little hole?
So cute when she gapes. X3
This picture is a bit old, from when she was still small enough to fit in a smaller tank. She would always jump onto the top ledge like that and just hang out- eventually we put cardboard there so she couldn't get up. If we take off the screen on her current tank, she'll do the same thing. She doesn't want to actually go anywhere, or get down out of the tank... she just likes to hang out on top. We call her "monorail dragon" when she does this.
I could go on forever. They're easily the best pets I've ever had. If it gets just a bit warmer today, I might take them outside to enjoy some sunshine.
